Abstract

Abstract:

The current research aims to reveal the availability of basic reading skills among people with mental disabilities integrated into the primary stage. To achieve this goal, a list of basic reading skills was prepared, amounting to (10) sub-skills, and a basic reading skills test was prepared and applied to the research group to determine the availability of these skills among people with mental disabilities integrated into the primary stage. The research followed the experimental method using the quasi-experimental design with a single group. The research group consisted of (5) students with mental disabilities integrated into the primary stage. The research results showed a decline in the level of these skills in the areas of: recognizing letters, recognizing sounds, and reading words. The research recommended several recommendations, the most important of which are: the necessity of educating Arabic language teachers about developing basic reading skills among learners in different educational stages, and teachers using the basic reading test when evaluating students' performance in it. The research also presented a set of proposals based on the results it reached.
