Abstract

The current research aimed to develop the skills of understanding narrative text among first-year middle school students, and identified the effectiveness of a program based on reception theory in developing these skills in them, and the research followed two approaches; Descriptive and experimental, using a one-group experimental design. The research group consisted of (30) students in the first grade of middle school, at Al-Salam Preparatory School for Boys, affiliated with the Minya Educational Administration, Minya Governorate. To achieve the purposes of the research, the following tools and materials were prepared: A list of narrative text comprehension skills amounting to ( 15) Skill, and test of understanding the narrative text. The research concluded that there is an effectiveness for the program based on reception theory in developing the skills of understanding narrative text among first-year middle school students, and this was demonstrated by the presence of statistically significant differences at the level (0.01) between the average scores of the students of the research group in the pre- and post-applications of the test of text comprehension skills. The narrative as a whole, and its main skills individually, in favor of the post-application, and the size of the program’s effect was large. Its value in developing the skills of understanding narrative text was (0.93). In light of these results, the research recommended the necessity of using the program based on reception theory in teaching learners at different educational levels, in developing all language skills, and benefiting from research tools and materials
