This study aimed to identify the effect of using the process approach in improving the explanatory writing skills of tenth grade female students. To achieve the study objective, the quasi-experimental approach was used, by preparing an essay test to measure the students' performance in explanatory writing skills consisting of four skills: formulating ideas, organizing, constructing the explanatory text, and linguistic creativity. The study individuals consisted of (63) female students from the tenth grade in Jerash Governorate - Jordan, who were selected using the convenient method, and were divided into two experimental groups, the number of its members reached (32) students, who studied using the educational program based on the process approach, and a control group, the number of its members reached (31) students, who studied using the regular program. The results of the study showed that there was a statistically significant difference in improving the skills of interpretive writing individually and collectively, between the performance of the individuals of the two study groups in favor of the performance of the individuals of the experimental group. In light of the results reached by the study, the researcher recommended training Arabic language teachers to use the process approach in teaching interpretive writing.
