Abstract

The current research aimed to verify the psychometric properties of the irrational thoughts scale among middle school students. The scale was applied to a sample of (175) male and female middle school students, whose chronological ages ranged between (13-14) years, with an average of (13, 25) and a standard deviation (1, 17). The research results showed that the rate of agreement between the arbitrators on the scale’s arbitration elements ranged between (80-100%). The discriminant validity of the scale was calculated, as the difference between the upper quartile and the lower quartile was statistically significant at the level of ( 0.01) and towards the upper interquartile level; This means that the scale has strong discriminant validity, and the internal consistency of the scale was verified. The correlation coefficients between the dimensions and the total score ranged between (0.589 - 0.821), and the correlation coefficients between the score of each statement and the total score of the dimension to which it belongs ranged between (0.633 - 0.892), and they are significant values at (0.01). ), which indicates that the scale’s statements have an acceptable degree of consistency. The scale’s stability was verified in two ways, the first using the alpha reliability coefficient, where the value of the Cronbach’s alpha coefficient for the scale’s dimensions ranged between (0.75 - 0.89), which are acceptable values. Reliability was also calculated by the reapplication method using the Spearman correlation coefficient, whose values ranged between (0.85 - 0.94), which are significant values at the level of (0.01)
